Steven Crowder

Steven Crowder is an American political pundit on YouTube and Rumble who sells unregulated pills, calls government anti-poverty programs evil, calls everything communist and Marxist, and tries to stoke political violence among his followers.

He is also supportive of state political repression for constitutionally protected speech.

He also has explicit sympathies for violent political oppression in historical fascism (see: Crowder’s The Case for Fascism¹).

Views

Freedom of expression

• Crowder believes “Active communists” should be put in jail.²

He references disgraced mid-20th century American Senator Joseph McCarthy as inspiration. He also justifies this by correlating mid-20th century American communism with the variety of people supporting COVID lockdowns during 2020-2021). He also bizarrely implies that not wanting to jail communists is primarily a, “left-wing view”.²

What communists allegedly believe

• Crowder believes requiring overtime pay past 40 hours a week is communist because a communist came up with the idea.³

• Crowder believes teachers unions are communist because a communist came with up a teachers union in New York.⁴

• Crowder believes 2026 Democratic Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed is a communist.⁵ To the contrary El-Sayed has a kind of right-wing approach to affordable housing, simply implying on his website that the problem is the lack of free-market construction and a few corporations buying properties rather than advocating public housing. The rest of his platform is just universal health care,⁶ (even fascists believe in that) neo-Ludditism (Communists were not Luddites) and professional-managerial class concerns like raising teacher salaries.⁷

• Crowder believes “LGBTQ” is Marxist.⁸⁹ Marx had no position on non-heterosexuality. Additionally, nearly all self-identifying Marxist countries put homosexuals in jail.

• Crowder believes Hippies were Marxist.¹⁰ While a few may have been, Hippyism was an explicit rejection of the “Old Left”, which included Marxism. Hippyism instead drew from earlier influences like Eastern belief systems (as popularised by Alan Watts) and Fourierism¹¹ (which Marx mocked as undeveloped and denying workers a distinct independent movement).¹² Hippies were mainly focused on the liberation of emotion, intuition, and the body, and folllowed controversial existential experiments like “ontological confrontation” (as popularized by Timothy Leary), and followed the futurist writings of Buckminster Fuller and Marshall McLuhan.¹³

On fascism

• Crowder believes fascism was partially justifiable because socialists and communists “need to be shot” out of power.¹

• Crowder believes the inhabitants of countries with historical cases of fascism don’t believe in negative academic consensus about atrocities committed, because less people died under fascism than in the USSR under Stalinism, and because fascism seizes control of industry, boosting the economy. On the Democratic Socialists of America

• Crowder believes the Democratic Party lobbying and canvassing group the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), “have always wanted to destroy America”.¹⁵ In fact, the DSA is possibly the most reformist and electoral oriented socialist group that has ever existed in America, and while it contains batty people, do genuinely believe in democracy. Crowder also supports a political coup were the DSA to win a majority of federal positions some day, eliminate the electoral college, have an open border policy, and nationalize certain industry and property (while also implying he would assert any such election outcome as stolen).¹⁶

Government Poverty programs

• Anti-poverty entitlement programs are beyond the scope of government and fundmanetaly immoral because it “robs rich people”.¹⁷

Populism and democracy

• Government should categorically not represent popular wants of Americans expressed through votes, if there are ideological reasons to oppose popular politics.¹⁷

Nuclear weapons

• Marxism is a greater threat to Americans than nuclear war.¹⁸
